This new and authentic Mexican carry-out opened last spring. The dinner combos are
heavy on starches, but La Mexicana serves totally authentic, working-man's, down-to-adobe
Mexican food, including a selection of Mexican soda pops that is as large as the staff's
English vocabulary is small. Check it out if you're tired of Amerexican fare (Picante,
Rudy's, La Boca Grande) and don't want an expensive, sit-down meal at the Forest Cafe
or a long trip to El Taco Charro. Its ample following of regulars highly recommend
the Special Plate and the Burro, and I agree, but my favorite is their soft tacos.
If you haven't had a Mexican soft taco, I recommend trying one. Soft tacos are wrapped
like a Chinese moo shi dish. Best buy: the Burro. The tamales La Mexicana rule. (8/97)
